Educational Tours

Have you ever wanted to see where Fair Trade begins? Are you interested in visiting artisans personally and see how they have been impacted by Fair Trade? Would you like to see a foreign country in an exciting new way that incorporates tourist excursions with education about Fair Trade?

Each year, Minga offers an educational tour for Fair Trade enthusiasts and socially conscious
travelers to Ecuador to learn about Fair Trade in a unique way. Through traveling with
Minga’s founder and other staff, you will have the chance to meet and work with familyowned
businesses and artisans producing jewelry, clothing and other artisan goods. Participants
will be involved first-hand in helping with new product acquisition & design, artist promotion
and quality control. In order to participate as fully as possible, one week of intensive
Spanish classes is also offered to develop your language skills and enhance your cultural interchange.

During this trip, you will be challenged to learn, grow, and actively participate in the development
of Fair Trade on the producer side. The tour is strenuous as each day will be filled
with various opportunities, new experiences, and experiential learning. You will need to be
in good health, have an open mind, and maintain a flexible attitude to take advantage of
this distinct opportunity. Part of Minga’s mission is to make culturally diverse education as
affordable and safe as possible, so the total cost of the trip is about $1600-$1700 including
airfare, ground transportation, and accommodations. Minga offers two trips lasting between
twelve and fifteen days during January and July of each year.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this exciting and unique opportunity to participate
and learn about Fair Trade directly at its source, please email us at
